Location
Ripertoli is 20km south of Florence, 35km north of Siena, and close to the
charming rural towns of Greve-in-Chianti and Panzano. Although Ripertoli is
totally private and secluded as befits a country farmhouse, road access is
excellent and there are plenty of shops, banks and restaurants within a
10-minute drive.
The Google map alongside shows the precise location of Ripertoli. Use the
"Zoom into Ripertoli" button and then the plus button at the top left of the
map to get a real close-up. Unfortunately the colours of the Satellite
picture are not very good, but you can just see the house in the centre of
the picture.
How to get there
- Pisa
is the most convenient major airport, with frequent Ryanair
flights from Stansted, and BA and EasyJet flights from Gatwick. The drive to
Ripertoli takes a little over an hour, mostly by motorway.
- Florence
airport is 40 minutes from Ripertoli, with several daily
Meridiana flights from Gatwick.
- Bologna
airport is about 90 minutes from Ripertoli, and is well
served by BA. Ryanair also flies to Bologna but the airport is actually at
Forli, a little further away.
- Rome
and Milan are both a 3-hour-ish drive from Ripertoli and are
well served by intercontinental flights.
- The nearest train station is Florence, with excellent connections to
Rome and Milan. There is a frequent bus service to Greve from Florence
station - duration 1 hour (ish).
- Our local limo service www.chiantitravelservice.it will meet
Ripertoli guests at any airport; they will also arrange visits and
excursions if you don't want to drive yourself. However, we don't recommend
not having a car at all, as the nearest shops are a good hour's walk away.
- We occasionally drive all the way to Ripertoli from the UK; it's
almost exactly 1000 miles from London, 98% motorway. It's a very easy drive
through France (Calais - Rheims - Dijon - Geneva) and the Mont Blanc tunnel;
we have even done it in a single day without too much stress.
Nearby
- Greve-in-Chianti
, the most attractive of the Chianti towns, with a
delightful colonnaded Piazza, plenty of good shops for food and wine,
several banks, cash dispensers, restaurants, dry-cleaners, and a Coop.
There is a market in the Piazza every Saturday morning. Greve is 10 minutes
away by car, almost entirely downhill.
- Panzano
is also 10 minutes away. It's smaller than Greve but also
charming, with several good wine shops, the world-famous butcher Dario
Cecchini, and a Sunday morning market which is invaluable for guests who
arrive late on Saturday.
- Florence
is 40 minutes away. We recommend parking at the Garage
Ponte Vecchio (directions are in the House Book) - it's expensive but very
central.
- Siena
is 45 minutes away by motorway, or an hour on the highly
enjoyable "Via Chiantigiana", which passes through Greve and Panzano, and
also close to Castellina in Chianti ,
Radda , and
Gaiole , the other main
Chianti towns.
- San Gimignano
and Volterra
are about an hour away, by country roads
through lovely scenery.
- Arezzo
, Montalcino
, Montepulciano
, Pienza
, Monterchi
and San Sepolcro
are all 60 - 90 minutes drive away and are well worth a visit.
